How to Play Poker

Poker

Poker is a card game where players bet into a pot. The pot can be won by the player with the best hand. If two or more players have the same hand, a tie is broken by the high card.

During the first round of betting, each player puts in the same number of chips. This is called the “ante”. A player may be forced to put in an ante.

Players can place money into the pot in an attempt to bluff other players. When no other players call, the player who made the bet wins.

After the first round, each player has a turn to bet. Betting is done in a clockwise fashion, and each player’s betting interval is between each new card.

The dealer deals cards to players in order. A deck of 52 cards is usually used. Cards are dealt face down, but some games have a’showdown’, when each player can see his or her hand.

Each of the cards in the poker pack is ranked from the Ace to the Ten. Some games also have wild cards that can be used to make five of a kind.

If two or more players have the same poker hand, a tie is broken by the highest unmatched card. The highest pair wins. In some games, the winner of the side pots is different from the main pot.

There are several forms of forced bets. These can be ante, blind, or a draw.
